Weekly Photo Challenge: Cover Art

It’s been a few weeks since I posted. Family has taken priority recently but I am back with a photograph that I hope you will like. Taken last night on Prestatyn Beach it’s a 10 stop long exposure HDR about an hour before sunset.

Purple Haze

The Weekly Challenge was to create Cover Art and I did consider adding some text to this photograph but in the end I decided to leave it as it is.

Wow! The picture is gorgeous. Would you tell me more about it?

The photograph was taken last night on the beach at Prestatyn, North Wales. Because of the long exposures I used a tripod to support the camera, but got extremely low to the ground to take in the ripples in the sand caused by the tide which had just gone out. To fire the camera shutter I also used a remote control this way i would not experience any blurring of caused by the movement of the camera as I touched it.

I hope this is enough information for you, Karuna, but please feel free to leave another comment if you want something more detailed

That was quite a process. The effect is stunning. Thanks for sharing more.

This is absolutely beautiful! I would get this blown up big and hang it on my wall at home!

I liked reading your process behind this image — and the effect is striking!

Thanks Cindi. I’ve only just recently started experimenting with long exposures so still trying to get to grips with it. Fortunately I don’t have to calculate the times because the Olympus E-M1 builds a live picture in the LCD screen. As soon as I see it is correctly exposed and the histogram confirms it I can just close the shutter again.
